Thibaut Courtois criticises Gareth Bale for preferring early night over dinner with his Real Madrid team-mates and reveals nickname given to the Welshman
Gareth Bale snubbed dinner with his Real Madrid team-mates for an early night and spends the majority of his spare time on the golf course, according to Thibaut Courtois. The former Chelsea goalkeeper was critical of Wales international Bale for not adapting to the Madrid lifestyle, and revealed the rest of Real’s squad have nicknamed him ‘the golfer’.Gareth Bale has been dubbed ‘the golfer’ by team-mates1

“It is very hard to describe Gareth in one word,” Courtois told Belgian newspaperHLN.“I would say he has so much talent, but that it is such a shame that so often that talent is blocked from shining.”He added: “I live like somebody who is born and bred in Madrid. I eat late, I go bed late… it is their way of life. “The other night we had a dinner with the entire squad.“But Bale and (Toni) Kroos did not turn up. They reckoned the dinner was too late at night.”Courtois uploaded a picture of the Madrid players out at dinner and this latest revelation will do little to squash speculation that Bale is seen as an outsider. He continued: “We had arranged to be in the restaurant at 9.30pm and we started our meal around 10.15pm and by midnight we were having coffee.“We go to bed at around 1am. We have to train every morning at 11am. I think that is a perfect time.

“But Bale had told us ‘I am not coming to join you, guys. I go to bed at 11’.”Brazilian defenderMarcelo was also critical of Bale, saying he does not speak any Spanish despite living in the country since 2013.“Bale does not speak [Spanish] as he only speaks English and we talk with gestures,” he said. The 29-year-old has been plagued by injuries during his time with the club, but managed to net his 100th goal last week in the 3-1 win over Atletico Madrid.
