Sam Allardyce has warned Everton manager Marco Silva he may need to shelve his attractive brand of football to start getting consistent results.The Toffees boss is under pressure at Goodison Park, after a 1-0 defeat to Leicester on New Years Day left the team with just one win since November.4

Its difficult to gauge if there has been any progress under the Portuguese boss since he replaced Allardyce in the summer.Club chiefs decided to part ways with Big Sam at the end of last season, despite the experienced coach turning around their season and taking them from relegation danger to an eighth placed finish in the Premier League.They ultimately hired Silva, who was sacked by Watford four months earlier, hoping to bring a more attacking style to the blue half of Merseyside.But Everton have taken just seven wins from 21 games this season and currently sit tenth in the table on 27 points the same tally as last season at the same stage.

At the end of the day its all about winning football matches and trying to win them as best you can and as attractively as you can.But we all know if youre going to be successful you start with your clean sheets and you build from there.So if youre going down the attractive football route, its got to be attractive AND get you the results to keep you the job, which is extremely difficult to do.4

Allardyce was given just six months at Everton

Allardyce also hit back at the unfair criticism he faced at Everton, defending his work and insisting he did the best with the players available to him.I always thought results kept you the job, but for the first time ever in my career results never kept me in the job at Everton, he added.The undercurrent at Everton and the local paper began a campaign, that this was not the style of football they wanted, which I thought was extremely unfair.I was playing to the capabilities of the players who were available at the time.One commentator even said it has been as bad this year as it was last year, and Ill have to disagree with him.We finished eighth and we had a really good run playing at home I think I only lost two games against Manchester City and Manchester United.But, of course, perception is part of what we have to deal with as a manager.”
